The Lord is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!
Happy Easter everyone! The Easter season lasts for 50 days until Pentecost. During these joyful days we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection, his rising up into heaven on Ascension, and the gift of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost to Jesus’ followers which enabled them to spread the faith in many languages. Our Lenten discipline is finished. We get to say and sing “Alleluia” once again! We know Jesus always lives in us and loves us and hears our prayers. Take time to thank Jesus for all he has done for you!
I hope you have a joyful and blessed Eastertide!
Miss Nancy
Easter eggs are a symbol of the Resurrection
Do you know why we color eggs at Easter? It is an ancient tradition. Eggs are a symbol of Resurrection. Think about an egg. It has a hard outer shell and when the chick comes out of the egg, it is alive. It reminds us of Jesus being in the tomb and then coming out the tomb alive. There are many ways to dye or decorate eggs. In the countries of Ukraine eggs are often decorated with many colors and beautiful designs and are works! Here are some paper egg patterns to color to make your own paper pysanky.
If you want to use real eggs:
Real pysanky are made by first piercing small holes in the top and bottom of the egg using a shard pointed tool, blowing out the liquid egg, and then letting the shell dry out before decorating. The eggshells are very fragile!
You could draw designs on hardboiled eggs with a wax pencil and then dye the eggs. The dye will not stick to the wax pencil designs. Or you can use paint pen markers to paint designs on hardboiled eggs or wooden eggs you can get at a craft store!

So, what happened after Jesus rose from the dead until he ascended into heaven? After he rose from the tomb, he was seen first by Mary Magdalene at the empty tomb. She did not recognize him until he called her by name (read the Gospel according to John 20: 11-18). He then appeared four more times in the Gospels after he was risen:
On the road to Emmaus where he joined up with two of his followers walking on the road. They did not recognize him until he sat at dinner with them and blessed and broke the bread! Then they knew who he was and he then disappeared. (read in the Gospel according to Luke 24:13-35).
In the upper room where he showed the disciples (except for Thomas who was not there) the wounds in his hands and feet and where he breathed on them and told them they had received the Holy Spirit {read in the Gospel according to John 20:19-23}. 8 days later, he appeared again to the disciples and this time the doubting Thomas was there. Only after Jesus showed Thomas his hands and feet did he realize it truly was Jesus standing in front of him. (read in the Gospel according to John 20:24-28)
At the seaside where he appeared to Peter, Thomas, Nathanael, James, John and two others. They were fishing and having no luck catching anything. Jesus called to them and told them to dip the net into the other side of the boat where they caught so many fish they could barely haul it to shore. John was the first to realize it was Jesus telling them how to catch the fish. On the shore, when Jesus blessed and broke the bread the disciples recognized him. It is here that Jesus commanded Peter to tend and care for those who follow Christ. (read in the Gospel according to John 21:1-19}.
In his appearances after rising from the tomb, Jesus is preparing his disciples to continue to spread God’s word throughout the world with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
