Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament

Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament – Saint Teresa of Avila Ward

The Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament is the oldest devotional society in the Anglican Communion. It was founded in England as part of the Oxford Movement on the first Thursday in Advent in the year of our Lord 1862. The American Branch of the Confraternity was instituted September 11, 1867.

At the heart of the Christian faith lies the Blessed Sacrament of the altar. It is at the altar that the outward and visible sign of God’s inward and spiritual grace is conveyed by means of Christ’s Body and Blood. Here we share in the divine life through the gift of God’s Son, Jesus Christ.  Associates of the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament strive to promote reverence for Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist through the witness of their lives and words, through prayer, and teaching.
